作者简介
柯灵思，生于1924年3月18日，卒于2011年6月3日。
有名语言学家和教育家，毕业于美国得克萨斯州基督教大学 (Texas Christian University) 和耶鲁大学神学院 (Yale Divinity School) 。1961年和两个朋友共同开发了全美语言学校最通用的重量非常不错英语培训课程ESL (English as a Second Language) 并担任教授及导师等职务，从此开始语言教育生涯。
1963年，接受美国政府委托，创作并发行了针对母语非英语人士的英语教材English 900。该书自出版以来，好评如潮，创下了优选狂销1600万册的销售纪录。20世纪80年代初，更是风靡中国，人手一本，堪称英语学习者推荐的一套经典实用教材。
1972年，回到家乡猎鹰湾 (FalconCove) 着手促进语言教育，并于1975年创立佩斯靠前研究 (Pace International Research) 集团有限公司，专门从事针对外国人的英语教材开发。先后创作60多本英语教材，多次代表美国语言学界在世界各地举办语言讲座，譬如1980年举办的北美优选规模的英语教学讲座。
