JohnGalsworthy(1867-1933)waseducatedatOxford,wherehepreparedtogointolaw,butlaterdecidedtodevotehimselftowriting.TheManofProperty(1906),thefirstofthethreenovelsthatbecameTheForsyteSaga,establishedhisreputationasanauthorandakeenobserverofsociety.GalsworthywasawardedtheNobelPrizeforLiteraturein1932.
