AnAmerican-hornwriterandphotographer,JimGoodmanlefttheUnitedStatesforAsiain1972.AfterresidinginKorea4yearsandNepal11,hemovedtoChiangMai.
Thailandin1988andhaslivedthereeversince.ForTimesEditions,Singapore,hewrotetheKathmanduvolumeintheTimesTravelLibraryseries,theThailandvolumefortheCulturesoftheWorldSeriesandthetextforThailand:LandofEnchantment.HisworkontheThailandbranchoftheHaninationality,withwhomhehasbeenengagedinhandicraftsproductionsince1988,waspublishedbyWhiteLotusinBangkokandcalledMeettheAkhas.Since1992hehasmaderegularvisitstoallpartsofYunnan,38altogether,andpublishedmanyarticlesontheprovinceanditspeopleintheregionalmedia.HeistheauthorandmainphotographeroftwobooksintheTeakHouseseriesCulturesandPeoplesofSoutheastAsia.ThefirstwasChildrenoftheJadeDragon:theNaxiofLijiangandtheirMountainNeighbourstheYi.ThesecondwasTheAkha:GuardiansoftheForest.
