【作者简介】: WilliamCarlosWilliams(1883-1963)wasborninRutherford,NewJersey.HereceivedhisM.D.fromtheUniversityofPennsylvania,wherehemetandbefriendedEzraPoundandH.D.(HildaDoolittle).Atthesametimeasmaintainingapopularmedicalpractice,hebecameaprolificpoet,novelist,essayist,andplaywright.Experimentingwithnewtechniquesofmeterandlineation,Williamssoughttoinventanentirelyfresh—andsingularlyAmerican—poetics,whosesubjectmatterwascenteredontheeverydaycircumstancesoflifeandthelivesofcommonpeople.HewasinductedintotheNewJerseyHallofFamein2009.CharlesTomlinsonreadEnglishatQueensCollege,Cambridge,haslivedinNorthernItalyandLondon,andhasrecentlyretiredafterthirty-sixyearsofteachingattheUniversityofBristol.In1993hereceivedtheBennettAwardforachievementinliteraturefromTheHudsonReviewofNewYork,andin1991thePremioEuropeodiCittadella.HeistheeditoroftheclassicanthologyTheOxfordBookofVerseinEnglishTranslation.HelivesinGloucester,England.
