  全书以功能语言学为理论基础，对句子结构（句法）进行意义（语义）的研究。全书注意语言学理论与语言教学实际的结合。分析了1000多个基本、常见的英语句子。旨在说明英语结构并不是任意的。而是和意义的表达密切相关。本书对英语教学具有很强的指导意义。
