Othello is one of Shakespeare's four great tragedies. Othello is a brave general in the Principality of Venice. He fell in love with Desdemona, the daughter of the senator. But because he was black, the marriage was not allowed. The two had to marry privately. Othello had a sinister flag officer Iago, who was determined to get rid of Othello. First, he told the senator, but he made the marriage happen. He also provoked the relationship between Othello and Desdemona, saying that another lieutenant, Cassio, had an unusual relationship with Desdemona, and forged the so-called love token. Othello believed it and in his anger strangled his wife. When he learns the truth, he draws his sword and kills himself in remorse, falling beside Desdemona.
William Shakespeare (bapt. 26 April 1564 – 23 April 1616) was an English playwright, poet and actor. He is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's greatest dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon" (or simply "the Bard"). His extant works, including collaborations, consist of some 39 plays, 154 sonnets, three long narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship.
