缅甸淡水鱼类极其丰富，缅甸北部的因道支湖是缅甸第一大湖，也是东南亚优选的淡水湖之一。对该湖的鱼类多样性的研究非常少，缺乏系统调查和研究。经过中国科学院东南亚生物多样性水生生物多样性研究组2018-2019年5次系统调查，现知该湖分布有鱼类104种。本书首次系统整理了因道支湖鱼类的资料，提供了基本的分类学信息、鉴别特征、生物学、现状和分布等，每种鱼类附1-2张彩色照片。本书对于东南亚淡水鱼类分类学研究和生物多样性保护具有重要的参考价值。
