Forthepasttwentyyears.Dr.Caohasunder-takenmanykeyresearchprojectsmainlyrelatedtotheecophysiology，forestecologyundsilviculcureofpoplar，bambooandginkgo.HehaspublishedseveralbookstitledasChineseGinkgo，GinkgoGrowthDy-namicsofSouthernPoplarClones，SilvicultureandForestEcology.Since1992，hisresearchinterestshavebeenfocusedonginkgotreespeciescoveringmanyaspectsfromgeneticstophysiology，forestecology，silvicultureandutilizationsofginkgo.Theforty-threegraduatestudentshehassupervisedoverthepasttenyearshavestudiedallaspect.sofSilvicultureandsomeareasofForestEcologycoveringecophysiology，pro-ductionecology，agroforestry.treespeciesselection，densitycontrolandmodelling.
