AlanGreenspanwasbornin1926andrearedintheWashingtonHeightsneighbourhoodofNewYorkCity.AfterstudyingtheclarinetatJuilliardandworkingasaprofessionalmusician,heearnedhisBA,MAandPh.D.inEconomicsfromNewYorkUniversity.In1954,heco-foundedtheeconomicconsultingfirmTownsend-Greenspan&Co.From1974to1977,heservedasChairoftheCouncilofEconomicAdvisersunderPresidentGeraldFord.In1987,PresidentRonaldReaganappointedhimChairmanoftheFederalReserveBoard,apositionhehelduntilhisretirementin2006.--ThistextreferstoanalternatePaperbackedition.
