  TheStandardModelofelementaryparticleinteractionsistheoutstandingachievementofthepastfortyyearsofexperimentalandtheoreticalactivityinparticlephysics.ThisbookgivesadetailedaccountoftheStandardModel,focussingonthetechniquesbywhichthemodelcanproduceinformationaboutrealobservedphenomena.ThetextopenswithapedagogicaccountofthetheoryoftheStandardModel.Introductionstotheessentialcalculationtechniquesneeded,includingeffectivelagrangiantechniquesandpathintegralmethods,areincluded.ThemajorpartofthetextisconcernedwiththeuseoftheStandardModelinthecalculationofphysicalpropertiesofparticles.Rigorousandreliablemethods(radiativecorrectionsandnonperturbativetechniquesbasedonsymmetriesandanomalies)areemphasized,butotherusefulmodels(suchasthequarkandSkyrmemodels)arealsodescribed.Thestrongandelectroweakinteractionsarenottreatedasindependentthreads,butratherarewoventogetherintoaunifiedphenomenologicalfabric.Manyexercisesanddiagramsareincluded.
