本书以Internet为主用自顶向下的方法讲述计算机网络。本书打破以往讲网络必以OSI七层协议模型为基本的传统，而代之以成熟且实用的TCP/IP五层协议体系，同时采用符合认知规律的顺序，自顶向下地由应用层到物理层顺序讲述计算机网络的基本原理及应用技术。
