E.B.White,theauthorofsuchbelovedclassicsasCharlotte'sWeb,StuartLittle,andTheTrumpetoftheSwan,wasborninMountVernon,NewYork.HegraduatedfromCornellUniversityin1921and,fiveorsixyearslater,joinedthestaffofTheNewYorkermagazine,theninitsinfancy.HediedonOctober1,1985,andwassurvivedbyhissonandthreegrandchildren.
Mr.White'sessayshaveappearedinHarper'smagazine,andsomeofhisotherbooksare：OneMan'sMeat,TheSecondTreefromtheCorner,LettersofE.B.White,EssaysofE.B.White,andPoemsandSketchesofE.B.White.Hewoncountlessawards,includingthe1971NationalMedalforLiteratureandtheLauraIngallsWilderAward,whichcommendedhimformakinga“substantialandlastingcontributiontoliteratureforchildren.”
