Covers: The book (Folio) is bound in the original publisher's red cloth with blind stamped decoration and gilt lettering pieces centre of the front board; boards are soiled, darkened at edges, scuffed and bumped at edges and corners, large scrape with loss of cloth to the lower front board, bottom outer corner chipped away; spine is darkened and scuffed with slight loss to the foot end; joints are scuffed and tender. Inside: Book plate of Frederick A Wood of Somerset to the front paste down along with lettering and numbering pieces in pencil and ink, and a large white sticker. Foxing and brown blemishes to almost all plates, to varying degrees; guard sheets are variously foxed, at times transferring to the facing text though faint; plates are toned at the margins; some handling marks to margins; some guard sheets torn and/or creased. The book is complete with 17 leaves of numbered black and white engraved plate, all are free of rips or tears though the bottom outer corner of plate 1 is heavily creased and beginning to tear. Early pages are straining at the gutter as a result of the weak inner hinge; gapping at the gutter at pages viii and 1.
