Aluminaire House has a place in history way beyond its aesthetic and structural innovative qualities. Comparatively ignored in its day, it is important to the history of architecture as being the first built example of what we at the Museum of Modern Art havenamed the International Style.

Its variegated history since then has been told in other places, but from the point of view of ourselves, the instigators of the Museum of Modern Art show of 1932 and the authors of The international Style book of the same year, it is a beacon on adark night. lt represented the possibilty of American participation in a movement which since that day has had repercussions throughout the entire world.

It is the one built evidence of the beginning of that strong and stil dominant mode of American building.
