The author
Rose-Marie Hagen, born in Switzerland, studied modern literature and history in Lausanne. After spending several periods of study in Paris and Florence, she taught French at the American University in Washington, D.C. Rainer Hagen, born in Hamburg, studied literature and dramaturgy in Munich. After his doctoral dissertation, he worked from 1956 to 1989 on radio and television, where he was at the end editor of a German service. The two authors have produced several books published by Éditions TASCHEN, including Les dessous des chefs-d'oeuvre and two monographs on Pieter Bruegel and Francisco de Goya.
