SummarizingthefieldexperiencesaccumulatedindecadesandestablishingrelateddevelopmenttheoriesisaleapforwardinChineseoilfielddevelopment.Especially，mostofChinesedomesticreservesareincontinentaldeposits，whicharemuchmorecomplicatedtodevelopthanthoseinmarinedepositsare.ThetheoreticalsummarizationontheoilfielddevelopmentnotonlywillhaveasignificantimpactonChinesereservoirdevelopmentstudies，butalsowillenrichthedevelopmenttheorystudiesintheworld.
In1987，aworkinggroupheadedbyMr.TanWenbinwasformedtoformulatethepublicationoftheSeriesonReservoirDevelopmentModelsinChina.Duringathree-yearpreparationperiod，thegroupwasfocusedonthepublishingplans，organizationsetupsaswellasthetechnicalreservoircategorization.In1990，thecompilationoftheSeriesonReservoirDevelopmentModelsinChinawasformallyinitiated.ThisprojectwasthenlistedbyChinaNationalPetroleumCompany（CNPC）asoneofthekeyscientificresearchprojectsofthe"EighthFive-YearEconomicPlan"（1991～1995）.In1995，aneditorialcommitteechairedbyCNPCpresident，ZhouYongkang，wassetuptoacceleratetheseries'publication.Inthecommittee，Mr.TanWenbinandMr.WangNaijuwereappointedasvicechairmenofthecommittee.ProfessorsZengXianyi，ShenPingping，JinYusun，ZhangJiamao，ZhouChengxun，WanRenpu，LiuWanfuandGangQinlinwereelectedascommitteemembers.
