内容简介：

现代化是18世纪以来人类文明的一种深刻变化，它包括政治、经济、社会、各个领域从传统向现代的巨大转变，以及人的全面发展和自然环境的合理保护。现代化是一个世界现象，它发源于先行，然后发生在全世界。从18世纪到21世纪，现代化的内涵和特征发生了巨大变化。目前，世界上多数都在自觉或不自觉地经历某种现代化过程，都在直接或间接地把现代化作为一种发展目标。现代化科学通过多学科交研究，促进人们对现代化现象的理解。2020年中国将迈入"基本实现现代化"的发展阶段。加强现代化研究，探索现代化规律，既是学界的一个重要使命，同时具有世界意义。20世纪50年代以来，世界现代化研究有三次：经典现代化研究（5060年代）、后现代研究（7080年代）、新现代化研究（90年代以来）。目前，世界现代化研究处于第三次，我国学者研究在第三次中处于世界前沿和地位。本书出版将继续增强我国学者在新现代化研究领域的领先地位。2016年5月中科院中国现代化中心组织召开了第二届世界现代化论坛。论坛收到60多篇。其中，20多篇来自美国、俄罗斯、意大利、挪威、芬兰、罗马尼亚、波兰、英国、印度等国学者，40多篇来自中国学者。这些分别讨论了欧洲、美洲和亚洲多个领域的现代化，反映了全球现代化进程既有规律也有多样，现代化研究既有理论意义也有实践价值，代表了当今世界现代化研究的前沿水。
