本书以浙江萧山的一个村庄为单位制描述框架，介绍了发生在村庄中的以单位化为特征的组织变迁，以及这一变迁所指示、所伴生、所引发的其他方面的社会变迁。全书分为四个部分：部分着重观察与分析单位化村落兴起的组织资源。第二部分观察生态环境资源和政策资源及单位化村落的形成过程。第三部分旨在观察单位化村落的运转状况，分析单位化的组织方式与村落变迁的相互作用，并且打算强调，村落单位化是村落靠前的对城市基层组织格局和城市生活的一种趋近方式和趋近过程，因此，它不能不对村落这样的乡村社区、村组织这样的乡村基层组织发生诸多的影响。第四部分分析单位化村落运转过程中遇到的新问题和主要难题，陈述单位化村落为解决这些问题所作的努力以及这些努力所产生的单位化村落的转换趋势。本书计划在初版的基础上进行修订，试图在当前语境下剖析村落中组织变迁的社会学因素。
