- ArthurSchopenhauerwasborninDanzigin1788.HewentontostudymedicineandscienceatGottingenUniversityandin1810begantostudyphilosophy.In1811hetransferredtoBerlintowritehisdoctoralthesis,andbegantowriteTheWorldasWillandIdea,acompleteexplorationofhisphilosophy,whichwasfinishedin1818.Althoughthebookfailedtosell,hisbeliefinhisownviewssustainedhimthroughtwenty-fiveyearsoffrustrateddesireforfame.In1844broughtamuchexpandededitionofhisbook,whichafterhisdeathbecameoneofthemostwidelyreadofallphilosophicalworks.Hisfamewasestablishedin1851withthepublicationofParergaandParalipomena.Hediedin1860.
