JamesJoycewasbornon2February1882inDublin.HestudiedmodernlanguagesatUniversityCollege,Dublin.Aftergraduating,JoycemovedtoParisforabriefperiodin1902.In1904JoycemetNoraBarnacle,withwhomhewouldspendtherestofhislifeandtheymovedtoEuropeandsettledinTriestewhereJoyceworkedasateacher.HisfirstpublishedworkwasabookofpoemscalledChamberMusic(1907).ThiswasfollowedbyDubliners(1914),APortraitoftheArtistasaYoungMan(1916)andtheplayExiles(1918).In1915theFirstWorldWarforcedJoyceandNoraandtheirtwochildrentomovetoZurich.Joyce'smostfamousnovel,Ulysses,waspublishedinParisin1922.Inthesameyearhestartedworkonhislastgreatbook,Finnegan'sWake(1939).JamesJoycediedinZurichon13January1941.
