红与黑（英文版）/英文全本典藏主人公于连是一个木匠的儿子，年轻英俊，意志坚强，精明能干，从小希望借助个人的努力与奋斗跻身上流社会。他在当地市长家做家庭教师时与市长夫人勾搭成奸，事情败露后被迫离开，进了神学院。后经神学院院长举荐，来到巴黎，给保王党中坚人物拉莫尔侯爵当秘书，很快得到侯爵的赏识和重用。与此同时，于连又与侯爵的女儿有了私情。后在的策划下，市长夫人被迫写了一封告密信揭发他，使于连的飞黄腾达的美梦毁于一旦。于连气愤之下，开击伤市长夫人，被判处死刑，上了断头台。

【作者简介】

斯当达（1783―1842），十九世纪法国杰出的批判现实主义作家，原名马里亨利贝尔，“斯当达”是他的笔名。他在文学上的起步很晚，三十几岁才开始发表作品。然而，他却给人类留下了巨大的精神遗产。他以准确的人物心理分析和凝练的笔法而闻名，被誉为重要和早的现实主义的实践者之一。代表著作为阿尔芒斯红与黑巴马修道院等。
