　　罗伯特·乔丹（RobertJordan），1948年出生于南卡罗莱纳州的查尔斯顿市。
　　四岁时开始自学阅读，而大他十二岁的哥哥也不时给予他指点。五岁时，马克．吐温（MarkTwain）和凡尔纳（JulesVerne）的作品深深吸引了他。
　　他毕业于南卡罗莱纳的要塞军校（TheCitadel），并获得了物理学学位。他曾经两度在驻越南美军中服役，获得了卓越飞行十字章、V字铜星章和两枚越南勇敢十字章。身为一位历史爱好者，他还撰写了许多舞蹈和戏剧评论。
　　喜爱狩猎、捕鱼和航海等户外运动，以及纸牌、象棋、撞球等室内活动；此外也喜欢收藏烟斗。他从1977年开始写作，立志要写到生命结束才会停笔。在去世前与妻子一同居住在一幢建于1797年的房子里。
　　于2007年9月16日下午2时去世，死因为心脏淀粉样变性病（cardiacamyloidosis）。
