本套书以“科普图画书”的形式，详尽地介绍中国古代在科学发现、技术发明、工程建设等方面的成就，共分为两辑。如果说辑的“四大发明”是比较独立具体地介绍某一项技术发明，那么第二辑则是比较全面系统地介绍了我国古代在某一技术领域的技术成果，主要包括纺织术、农耕术、营造术和制瓷术。本书描绘了我国古代先民如何在原始农业的基础上，通过不断的开拓与探索，创造了举世瞩目的成就。从茹毛饮血到刀耕火种，原始农业的兴起，推动了华夏文明的发展。我国作为一个农业传统悠久的国家，在耕作技术、耕作工具、灌溉工程、作物栽培、家畜驯化等方面都取得了杰出的成就。特别是火耕水耨、农田沟洫、围水梯山、顺时而作的耕作方式颇具农业生态思想，而青铜农具、铁器牛耕、翻车筒车的发明又颇具科学创意，大地提高了农业生产力。In the form of a “popular science picture book”, this set of books introduces in detail ancient China’s achievements in scientific discoveries, technological inventions, and engineering constructions. If the “Four Great Inventions” in the first volume gave a relatively independent and detailed introduction to a technological invention, the second volume introduces the achievements of ancient China in a technical field in a comprehensive and systematic manner. These include farming, textile, porcelain and construction techniques.This book describes how ancient Chinese made world-renowned achievements through continuous development and exploration on the basis of primitive agriculture. From eating raw animal flesh and drinking blood to slash-and-burn cultivation, the rise of primitive agriculture drove the development of Chinese civilization. As a country steeped in agricultural tradition, China has made outstanding achievements in farming technology, farming tools, irrigation projects, crop cultivation, livestock domestication and other areas. In particular, farming methods such as suppressing weeds with fire and water, digging ditches to drain or water farmland, building embankments in low-set areas and terraced fields on hillsides, and following the changing seasons to farm, all these demonstrated an ecological thinking in agriculture. The scientific and creative inventions of bronze farm tools, cattle-driven iron equipment, and hydraulic devices like keel water wheel and water scoop have greatly improved agricultural productivity.
