FrankH.NetterwasborninNewYorkCityin1906.HestudiedartattheArtStudentsLeagueandtheNationalAcademyofDesignbeforeenteringmedicalschoolatNewYorkUniversity,wherehereceivedhisDoctorofMedicinedegreein1931.Duringhisstudentyears,Dr.Netter'snotebooksketchesattractedtheattentionofthemedicalfacultyandotherphysicians,allowinghimtoaugmenthisincomebyillustratingarticlesandtextbooks.Hecontinuedillustratingasasidelineafterestablishingasurgicalpracticein1933,butheultimatelyoptedtogiveuphispracticeinfavorofafull-timecommitmenttoart.AfterserviceintheUnitedStatesArmyduringWorldWarII,Dr.NetterbeganhislongcollaborationwiththeCIBAPharmaceuticalCompany(nowNovartisPharmaceuticals).This45-yearpartnershipresultedintheproductionoftheextraordinarycollectionofmedicalartsofamiliartophysiciansandothermedicalprofessionalsworldwide.
