Judith Oritz Coffer a native of Puerto Rico, is the author of several books, including Call Me Maria. Among her many distinguished awards is a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. In 1984, she joined the faculty of the University of Georgia, where she is now a professor of English and Creative Writing.
