　　Inthetwo-yearsequenceoftheFeynmanLecturesonPhysicswhichweregivenfromSeptember1961throughMay1963fortheintroductoryphysicscourseatCaltech，theconceptsofquantumphysicswerebroughtinwhenevertheywerenecessaryforanunderstandingofthephenomenabeingdescribed.Inaddition，thelasttwelvelecturesofthesecondyearweregivenovertoamorecoherentintroductiontosomeoftheconceptsofquantummechanics.Itbecameclearasthelecturesdrewtoaclose，however，thatnotenoughtimehadbeenleftforthequantummechanics.Asthematerialwasprepared，itwascontinuallydiscoveredthatotherimportantandinterestingtopicscouldbetreatedwiththeelementarytoolsthathadbeendeveloped.TherewasalsoafearthatthetoobrieftreatmentoftheSchrodingerwavefunctionwhichhadbeenincludedinthetwelfthlecturewouldnotprovideasufficientbridgetothemoreconventionaltreatmentsofmanybooksthestudentsmighthopetoread.Itwasthereforedecidedtoextendtheserieswithsevenadditionallectures;theyweregiventothesophomoreclassinMayof1964.Theselecturesroundedoutandextendedsomewhatthematerialdevelopedintheearlierlectures.
