　　亚当·斯密（AdamSmith），18世纪英国著名的经济学家和伦理学家。1723年6月5日出生于苏格兰法夫郡；1737年进入格拉斯哥大学学习哲学；1740年被选人牛津大学深造；1748年任爱丁堡大学讲师；1751年任格拉斯哥大学教授；1763年任英国财政大臣养子的伴游导师；1778年任爱丁堡关税局长；1787年受聘为格拉斯哥大学校长；1790年7月17日辞世，享年67岁。
　　斯密一生奉献了两部传世经典：《道德情操论》（1759年）和《国富沦》（1776年）。前者为伦理学著作，它的出版使斯密享誉学术界；后者为经济学著作，它的出版标志着经济学作为一门独立学科的诞生，也成就了亚当·斯密作为“经济学之父”的不朽名声。
