Henry Miller's "Tropic of Cancer" and its sequel, "Tropic of Capricorn," were published simultaneously by Grove Press, New York, in 1961, after being banned in the U.S. for obscene content. When the Grove Press released the novels for publication, it started trials that tested the First Amendment of the Freedom of Speech. After testing the laws on pornography, the novels were granted non-obscene by the U. S. Supreme Court. "Tropic of Capricorn" published by Grove is the first American edition of this long-banned masterpiece first published in Paris in 1939, the companion to Miller's earlier "Tropic of Cancer." An unsparing account of what it means to grow to manhood in America, the magic leaps from the page in uninhibited, subversive, often hilarious -- never less than brilliant -- prose, proving yet again why the author remains one of the most iconic writers of the twentieth century. "Black Spring" is the author's second book, written between "Tropic of Cancer" and "Tropic of Capricorn" in 1936. It consists of a collection of stories very much in the style of the two Tropics, about himself, his friends and the places that he so evocatively brings to life.
