The journal, Arteriosclerosis, was started in 1981 by Edwin L. Bierman, Arno Motulsky, Russell Ross, Lawrence A. Harker, Paul Bornstein, James G. White and Goran Bondjers. It was published bi-monthly until January 1992, when it began monthly publication.
Dr. Bierman continued as Editor-in-Chief until December, 1990.
Alan Fogelman took over as Editor-in-Chief in January 1991. Jack Hawiger was a co-editor. Goran Bondjers also stayed on the masthead as an editor. Also in January of 1991, the title expanded to Arteriosclerosis & Thrombosis. The title then changed to Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology in January 1995.
James Scott and Giulio Gabbiani were added as editors in January 1995.
Donald D. Heistad, took over as Editor-in-Chief in July 1999.
Goran Hanson joined as European Editor and Akira Takeshita joined as the Asian Editor. Christer Betsholtz, Ingemar Bjorkhem, Per Eriksson, Frank Faraci, William Haynes, Steven Lentz, Ryozo Nagai, Anders Olsson, Mats Rudling, and Arthur Spector were Associate Editors working at this time.
Mark Taubman became Editor-in-Chief in July 2007. Alain Tedgui became the European Editor and Ryozo Nagai became the Asian Editor. They were assisted by Associate Editors: Edward Fisher, Chantal Boulanger, Francois Cambien, M. John Chapman, Joseph Emmerich, Catherine Hedrick, Ziad Mallat, Nigel Mackman, Ruth McPherson, Joseph Miano and William Sessa.
Edward Fisher became Editor-in-Chief in July 2011 and maintained the Editorial teams of the previous Editorship.
