本书利用2005年--2014年在印度洋公海海域和中西太平洋海域漂流金枪鱼延绳钓渔业调查所获得的主要金枪鱼类、兼捕的鲨鱼类和枪鱼类的生物学数据、渔获数据、渔具作业参数和海洋环境数据，对金枪鱼类的渔业生物学、栖息环境、漂流金枪鱼延绳钓金枪鱼类渔获率的计算方法、渔具和环境因素对渔获率的影响等进行了分析研究，得出了大眼金枪鱼年龄与生长的关系、阐明了印度洋公海海域黄鳍金枪鱼生物学特性发生变化的原因。
