ProfessorDoneCaishi、theediroeofthisbookandfamoushistorian，vcasborninwujincounty，JiangsuProvincein1921.AftergraduatingfromtheCentralPoliticalUniversityin1946，hebeganalongcareerofteachingEngtishandhistory.In1952hedevotedhimselfentirelytoteachinghis-tory.In1958hebeganteachingmodernChinesehistoryattheHistoryDepartmentofJiangsuTeachersCollege，hisresearchfocusingonhistoryoftheTaipingHeavenlyKingdomandmodernChineseDoliticalhistory.
