　　穆里尔·斯帕克1918年出生于爱丁堡，婚后曾育有一子，但不久后就离婚了。1963年开始，她与艺术家珀涅罗珀·嘉定同居，并在此后的30多年中相濡以沫。1967年，她移居意大利，在一个小镇上住了27年。
