　　The South China Sea's fault block is a diamond-like expanded rift basin surrounded by crustal fault and lithosphcric fault,with the Manila Trench in the east,the Palawan Trouuh in the south,the east-Vietnam continental shelf in the west and the south China continental shelf in the north setting its boundaries,it includes most of the continental slopes of the South China Sea and the whole central basin.The Dongsha,Xisha and Zhongsha terraces constitute the first,second and third underwater terracc of the northwest continental slope of the South China Sea.Rescarches of geologists believed that,"the continental slope of the sca basin of the South China Sea originated from the breakagc and disintegration of the south China continental shelf.The contincntal shelf broke and separated layer by layer.The fact that the tectonic lines of the Xisha and Zhongsha continental slopes parallel to that of the south China continent proves the"affinity"relationship between them."Meanwhile,the drilling exploration also proves that the crust of the Nansha continental slope also belongs to continental crust.The central basin of the South China Sea has an oceanic crust. 
　　In geologic structure,the seabed of the sea basin of the South China Sea above which Iocates the South China Sea Islands is separated from its surrounding continents with a number of significant lithospheric fault zones.In the west,east-Vietnam breakage separates the coastal land masses of Vietnam with the Xisha-Zhongsha land masses,thus the two have different seafloor sediments.
