现今原生艺术的发展态势异常迅猛，国内已经出现多个相关机构，关注原生艺术的人也越来越多。一方面，随着互联网等新媒体的覆盖面越来越广，人们开始厌倦以往关注的传统艺术、现代艺术、当代艺术这些艺术形态。另一方面，当代艺术已进入瓶颈阶段，很多有前沿意识的艺术家不断进行反思，艺术向本源、本体的回归已经成为共识，原生艺术正成为艺术界热议的话题，很多当代艺术家甚至从事传统艺术的艺术家都从原生艺术中汲取养分，原生艺术已成为当代艺术家重要的灵感源。

与之相应，已出版的三期《原生艺术》在社会上也引起了强烈反响。由于《原生艺术》是中英文对照的刊物，编辑工作量较大，所以第四辑延至今日才面世。我们本着多元、开放式的理念，尽力把值得关注的原生艺术家推介给读者，比如本期推介的法国的薛瓦勒、艾芙琳·珀斯迪克、瑞贝卡·坎布以及中国的宋培伦。另外，我们还从学术的高度考虑，全方位地介绍原生艺术相关学科的有影响力的学者的文章。在《原生艺术》出版的过程中，编委会收到大量的读者来电来信，获取了很多有益的意见和建议。在进行了综合考量之后，《原生艺术》呈现给读者的无论是作品还是文章，都经过编委会慎重的筛选，在此，也深深地感谢读者的大力支持。

当下转型社会中人们的压力巨大，因此他们更关注精神世界，原生艺术群体的不断扩大也与此有关。原生艺术家往往是社会上的弱势群体，对他们的关爱也体现了文明的高度。我们对“原生艺术家”的定义可能与杜布菲提出的“原生艺术三类人”的概念有所区别，因为很难找到完全不受现代文明影响的艺术家，结合时代和社会的情况，我们认为，对原生艺术家的定位应该与时俱进。这是《原生艺术》立足中国、放眼世界的根基所在，也是其集合国内外原生艺术精粹的前提条件。

Nowadaysin China, Art Brut has developed surprisingly fast as several relatedinstitutions being established and more people showing interest in it. On onehand, with the wider coverage of Internet and new media, people have started togetting tired of the artistic forms of the traditional, modern and contemporaryart. On the other hand, the development bottleneck of the contemporary art haspushed a lot of artists with the frontier spirit to reflect and then theconsensus has been reached that art should return to its origin and ontology.Art Brut has aroused a heated discussion in art circles, from which manycontemporary artists and traditional artists absorb nutrition. Art Brut hasbecome the important nutritional sources of contemporary artists.

Correspondingly,the three issues of Outsider Art havearoused strong repercussions. OutsiderArt is a Chinese-English bilingual magazine. Due to its heavy editing work,the fourth issue has been delayed for publication. With the conception ofdiversity and openness, the magazine tries to introduce to the readers theoutstanding outsider artists such as the French artists Cheval, AlainBourbonnais, Evelyne Postic, Rebecca Campeau and Chinese artist Song Peilun inthis issue. Moreover, it is of great academic value by publishing the articlesof some influential scholars in the disciplines related to Art Brut. In theprocess of Outsider Art’spublication, the editorial committee has received alot of readers’ phone calls and letters, from which the committee got manybeneficial opinions and suggestions. All the articles and works have beenselected by Outsider Art with thecomprehensive and all-round consideration. Here, we are deeply grateful to thereaders for their great support.

   Atpresent, with the heavy pressure in the age of social transformation, peopletherefore pay more attention to the spiritual world, which stimulates theprogress and expansion of Art Brut. The outsider artists are usually the socialvulnerable group. Our concern for them also reflects the level of civilization.Our definition of “outsider artists” is different from that of “three kinds ofoutsider artists” proposed by Dubuffet because it’s hard to find artists whoare totally isolated from modern civilization. According to the social reality,we hold the opinion that the definition of “outsider artists” should keep pacewith the times. This is the foundation of OutsiderArt to keep up with China and the world and also the precondition for Outsider Art to gather together theextraordinary works of Art Brut both at home and abroad.
