书主体部分共计七章。其中，靠前章为作者小传，从成长环境、求学经历、社会实践和文学创作等方面对沃克进行了评介；第二章为文献回顾，对沃克研究的靠前外历史与现状进行了分析与梳理；第三部分为理论探微，在分析比较妇女主义与女权主义以及黑人女性主义之间的异同的基础上，就妇女主义理论的出现、发展、完善、理论原则及其实践意义等做了全面概述；第四章至第七章为文本分析部分，从妇女主义视角全面审视沃克的小说作品，探讨了其中诸如黑人男子气节及人性的回归、黑人女性意识的觉醒、黑人民俗文化的传承、危机人类和谐共处的生态环境问题等共同主题。
