　　Dear Sirs，
　　Thank you for your Order No．12 for 40 metric tons of soybeans but regret beingunable to accept your terms of payment mentioned herein．In our last letter we reiterated our general terms and conditions，i．e．our usualterms of payment are confirmed irrevocable letter of credit in our favour，available bydraft at sight，reaching US one month before shipment，remaining valid for negotiationtill the 1 5 th day after the prescribed time of shipment，and allowing transshipment andpa~iM shipments．For your information，several big companies at your end have already done busi-ness with US as per the above terms．We hope you will agree to our terms of payment SOas to get the first transaction concluded．We look forward to your favourable reply．

　　谢谢你方12号订单订购40吨黄豆，但很遗憾不能接受你方在此提到的支付方式。
　　在上封信中，我们重申了我方的一般售货条件，即我方通常的付款条件是用保兑的、不可撤销的、以我方为受益人的信用证，凭即期汇票付款，在装运前1个月抵达我处，在规定的装运期后15天内在中国议付有效，并且允许转船和分批装运。
　　顺告，其他的几家大公司已按此条款与我方达成交易，希望你方同意我方的支付条款，以便达成第一笔交易。
　　盼佳音。
　　6．坚持惯例，不同意改变付款方式
　　Dear Sirs， We note from your letter of September 1 2 that you wish to have a change in pay-ment terms． Actually，there is nothing unusual in our original arrangement．Counting from thetime you open credit till the time shipment reaches your port，the interval，which isquite normal，is only about three months．Besides，your L／C is opened when the goodsare ready for shipment．In this case，we are sorry that we cannot meet your wish，that’S“Cash against Documents on arrival of goods”As we must adhere to our customary practice，we sincerely hope that you will notthink US unaccommodating．As soon as a fresh supply of steel sheets comes in，we will contact you．

　　从你方9月12日来函中得知你们想改变付款条件。
　　实际上在我们原先的安排中并没有什么特别的地方。从你方开立信用证的时间算起到货物抵达你港，这期间只有3个月，是很正常的。除此之外，当货物备好后，信用证才开立出来。在这种情况下，很抱歉恕不能满足你方的要求，即“货到时交单付款”。
　　因为我们必须遵守惯例，所以我们真诚地希望你们不要认为我们不近情理。
