商品描述: Orthoses are externally applied medical devices used to prevent orcorrect musculoskeletal deformities and improve physicalfunctioning; these devices are typically custom made. This is oneof very few books on the subject of orthotics published in recentyears and the only book focusing solely on the orthotic managementof children. The first part of the book considers the principles that arefundamental to orthotic management, including a review ofbiomechanics, consideration of clinical assessment methods, and thematerials and fabrication techniques used to make orthoses. Thesecond part of the book comprises several condition-specificchapters that consider the appropariate orthotic management of themore common conditions in childhood in the context ofmultidisciplinary care. The chapters include neuromuscularconditions such as cerebral palsy, myelomeningocoele and musculardystrophy; and also congenital deformities and conditions arisingin childhood. One chapter considers orthotic intervention foridiopathic scoliosis and another considers the sometimescontroversial issue of protective and corrective headwear.
