On 28 March 2007, the day before her 34th birthday, Emilie Hudig went for her annual medical check-up at the hospital. Thirteen years previously she had been treated for Hodgkin's disease, a form of lymph node cancer. According to the protocol, the physician informed Emilie that her file was closed and being moved to the archive. She had been 'clean' for so long that it could be closed. Four months later Emilie found a swollen node in her neck. An exam showed that Hodgkin's had returned. To be cured, she had to undergo several months of chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and radiation. One of her first reactions to this news was a flashback to her earlier experience: Frustration that her life had been put on hold. This time she fought against the idea of lying idolly in bed while poisons were pumped into her body. She bought a small analogue camera that she could take with her wherever she went and she made a pact with herself to take three photographs per day, at least. This allowed her to continue her profession and to not feel as if everything was on hold. On March 26th 2008, two days before her 35th birthday, she was given the results: ?the treatment had worked, she was cured once again. This book is a testament to what she went through and it has helped her regain control of her life.
