The electroencephalogram (EEG) is a critical tool for assessing and diagnosing numerous types of neurologic disorders. All neurologists understand in principle how EEG signals originate and propage within this brain, and how these phenomena appear on EEG tracings. In real-world clincal situations, neurologists don''t take the time to think through the meaning of a particular tracing. Instead, they use their accumulated experience to recognize at a glance patterns within the tracing. The patterns lead quickly to a clinical definition. This book provides a compilation of important EEG patterns -- both "typical" and variant presentations -- to give both trainees and practicing neurologists more confidence in their ability to identify EEG patterns accurately, or in some cases to recognize a technical artifact.
