Shestartedasasecretary,butmovedintoaneditorialcareer,workingwithUrsulaNordstrom.TheirsharedbeliefsandtheexcitementofworkingwithfinewritersandartistsbroughttoHarpergenerationsofextraordinaryauthorsandillustratorsandgaveHarperChildren'sBookstheirfresh,innovativequality.Talentwasnurtured;booksoflastingvaluewerecreated,manystilllovedandreaddecadesaftertheywerefirstpublished.AsJeanMercierwroteinPublishersWeekly,CharlotteZolotowwouldbeamongtheWho'sWhoofanyage,notonlyastheauthorofbooksofherown,butasaforcemajeurebehindmanychildren'sbooksonthedistinctivelistofHarper.
