This book includes six chapters. The first chapter gives a descriptionof the evolution path of China's monetary culture from ancient time totoday and presents the methodical monetary evolution history of China asa large oriental country with thousands of years of civilization. The secondchapter gives a comprehensive introduction of the history and developmentof Chinese economy, which is deemed as a world miracle, and an in—depthand systematic illustration of the crisis-less development pattern, whichis the cornerstone of monetary development. Chapter three mainly studiesthe internal and external environment for the implementation of Chinesemonetary policy and the changes to meet economic and financial structuralchallenges as well as the needs of Chinese monetary development. Chapterfour comprehensively describes the past, present and future of the RMBexchange rate and its reform by providing a historical review of the basicRMB exchange rate mechanism and the exchange rate system reform.Chapter five gives a thorough analysis of basic problems that RMB hasto face in order to achieve full convertibility. By taking into account thedomestic and international conditions, this chapter also forecasts the timingof fully convertible RMB. The last chapter expounds on the historicalbackground and implementation of RMB internationalization, and points outthat RMB internationalization is an important choice of China to participatein the international monetary system reform, allowing China to play animportant role in global economic growth.
