精彩内容

本书由彩色版《中华帝国图景》及附录两部分组成。

阿罗姆没有到过中国，他是以威廉·亚历山大等人的画作为蓝本，创作了128张西方早期艺术经典的中国影像。再配以怀特的说明文字，出版不久便成为英国乃至西方绘画本中国历史教科书的开山之作。当时的欧洲人，尤其是欧洲上层社会关于中国的知识大部分都源自这本书。

编者收集到了124张手工上色的阿罗姆版画，数量之多在国内尚属次。

附录部分收集了1682—1880年间欧洲出版的38张中国主题彩色版画。
