20世纪初，Ross主持《亚里士多德全集》牛津版的英译，该项目从1908年一直延续至1952年，共12卷。1908年，Ross英译的《形而上学》作为全集的第八卷率先出版。1924年，Ross完成其历史性著作《亚里士多德的形而上学——带有导论和解说的校订文本》，该书达1100多页，对《形而上学》的古希腊语文本进行了精细的校勘和注释。1928年，Ross依自己的校勘成果，对1908年的英译本进行了修订，本次即影印牛津大学出版社1928年版。
