david k. ferguon wa born in new zealand but grew up in cotland. he tudied geology at t. andrew univerity and nt ytematic at the univerity of liverpool before going on to peize in palaeobotany at the tate univerity of utrecht. in the coure of thi work he realized jut how many eatern aiatic nt once grew in europe. between 1969 and 1980 he worked periodically with lucien a. lauener on chinee nt at the royal botanic garden edinburgh. he firt viited china in peron in 1986 and ha ince fallen under the pell of thi facinating country. he currently collaborate with variou chinee univeritie and botanical/palaeobotanical intitute. from until 2010 he wa profeor of palaeobotany at the univerity of vienna. during thi time he developed the idea of writing a biography about robert fortune (18121880) one of the firt profeional ntmen to introduce ornamental nt from the far eat into europe. ince 2007 the author ha travelled widely viiting a many of fortune haunt a ible in order to gain an inight into the nt hunter experience.
