　CHAPTER I.  The Author gives some account of himselfand

　CHAPTER If.  The EmPeror of Lilliput, attended byseveral

  of the nobility, comes to see the Author in hisconfinement.

　The Emperor's person and habit described. Learned men

  appointed to teach the Author their language. He gainsfa-

  vour by his mild disposition. His pockets are searched,and

　his sword and pistols taken from him CHAPTER 1II.  The Authordiverts the Emperor and his nobil-

  ity of both sexes, in a very uncommon manner. Thediver-

  sions of the court of Lilliput described. The Authorhath

  his liberty granted him upon certain conditions CHAPTERIV  Mildendo the metropolis of Lilliput described,

  together with the Emperor's palace. A conversationbetween

  the Author and a principal Secretary, concerning theaffairs'

  of that empire. The Author's offers to serve the Emperor inhis wars CHAPTER V.  The Author, by an extraordinarystratagem,

　prevents an invasion. A high title of honour is conferred

　upon him. Ambassadors arrive from the Emperor of Blef-

　uscu, and sue for peace. The Empress's apartment on fire

　by an accident. The Author instrumental in saving the rest of thepalace CHAPTER VI.  Of the inhabitants of Lilliput; theirlearning,

　laws, and customs, the manner of educating their children.

　The Author's way of living in that country. His vindication of agreat lady CHAPTER VII.  The Author, being informed of adesign to

　accuse him of high treason, makes his escape to Blefuscu.

　His reception there CHArtER VIII.  The Author, by a luckyaccident, finds means

　to leave .Blefuscu; and, after some difficulties, returns safe tohis native country
