【内容简介】

　　林语堂的作品如同他的一生，孜孜地向世界解说中国，向祖国表达赤忱。作为用英语创作的一位中国作家，他向西方介绍中国文化的系列作品影响深远，被视作阐述东方思想的重要著述。此次结集的“林语堂英文作品集”，除保留外研社曾出版的《吾国与吾民》、《生活的艺术》、《浮生六记》和《京华烟云》等代表作品外，还收录了《风声鹤唳》、《老子的智慧》和《武则天传》等十余部颇具影响的原版著作。如此规模的林语堂英文作品在国内出版尚属首次，包括其中几种是首次以英文原貌在国内面世，极富收藏价值。此外，为了更好地介绍和呈现林语堂及其作品，还从台北林语堂故居和漳州林语堂纪念馆等地采集珍贵图片，如林语堂生平不同时期的独照、与亲友的合影、部分手稿和初版封面的存照等，以飨读者。

【作者简介】

　　林语堂，1895年10月10日生于福建漳州，乳名和乐，名玉堂，后改语堂。22岁获上海圣约翰大学学士学位，27岁获美国哈佛大学比较文学硕士学位，29岁获德国莱比锡大学语言学博士学位，同年回国，先后执教于北京大学、北京师范大学、厦门大学和上海东吴大学。1936年后居住美国，此后主要用英文写作。1966年回国。定居台湾。1967年受聘为香港中文大学研究教授。1975年荣任国际笔会副会长。1976年3月26日病逝于香港，葬于台北阳明山故居。林语堂用英文创作和翻译的一系列经典作品影响深远，奠定了他在国际文坛上的重要地位。
