  Last year was all extraordinary year in the historyof the People’S Republic of China．Facing the severecombined impact of a sudden coronavirus epidemicand a deep global economic recession，we the Chinesepeople of all ethnic groups，under the s~ong leadershipof the Central Committee of the Communist Party ofChina with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core，respondedwith tremendous tenacity．

  We achieved major strategic Success in ourresponse tO Covid一19 and China was the world’S onlymajor economy to achieve growth．We attained acomplete victory in the fight against poverty,and wescored decisive achievements in securing a full victoryin building a moderately prosperous society in allrespects．

    Indeed，om"achievements，which have won the

 approval of our people and global recognition，will be

 remembered in history．

    Our development goals and tasks for the year wereaccomplished，and major headway has been made inChina’S reform，opening up，and socialist modernizationdrive．

  Throughout this fierce battle against Covid一1 9，the CPC Central Committee put protecting the peopleand human life above everything else，with GeneralSecretary Xi Jinping personally taking charge andmaking response decisions．Thanks to the tirelesseffons of all of US，our gains in controlling Covid一1 9were continuously consolidated．

    In response to evolving epidemic dynamics，we made well—timed adjustments to our responseapproaches．We improved routine control mechanismsand effectively suppressed several local outbreaks oftheepidemic．With these actions，we protected the healthand safety of the people to the greatest extent possible，and created the conditions for returning to normal lifeandwork．

  Last year，we carried out the following work inimplementing the decisions and plans of the PartyCentral Committee to respond to Covid一19 and advanceeconomic and social development：
