Post-imperial literature has developed various technologies of the self in response to the reconfiguration of governmental techniques that was induced by the dissolution of the East-Central European empires in the 1920s and the crumbling of the West European empires in the 1950s. This book relates these traumatic constellations to one another by investigating the corresponding restructuring of power relations in the works of Kafka and Coetzee.
