【作者简介】: ISAKDINESENwasthepen-nameofKarenBlixen,whowasborninRungsted,Denmarkin1885.AfterstudyingartatCopenhagen,ParisandRome,shemarriedhercousin,BaronBrorBlixen-Finecke,in1914.TogethertheywenttoKenyatomanageacoffeeplantation.Aftertheirdivorcein1921,shecontinuedtoruntheplantationuntilacollapseinthecoffeemarketforcedherbacktoDenmarkin1931.AlthoughshehadwrittenoccasionalcontributionstoDanishperiodicalssince1905(underthenomdeplumeofOsceola),herrealdébuttookplacein1934withthepublicationofSevenGothicTales,writteninEnglishunderherpen-name.OutofAfrica(1937)isanautobiographicalaccountoftheyearsshespentinKenya.MostofhersubsequentbookswerepublishedinEnglishandDanishsimultaneously,includingWinter’sTales(1942)andTheAngelicAvengers(1946),underthenameofPierreAndrézol.AmongherothercollectionsofstoriesareLastTales(1957),AnecdotesofDestiny(1958),ShadowsontheGrass(1960)andEhrengard(1963).AllofthesebooksarepublishedbyPenguin.BaronessBlixendiedinRungstedin1962.
