ProfessorRuanYisanhasbeenworkingasaconsultantformanyhistoriccitiessuchasSuzhou，Yangzhou，Hangzhou，Shaoxing，Pingyao，andLijiang.Hehasmadeamajorcontributiontotheeducationandresearchofurbandevelopmenthistoryandurbanheritageconservation.Hehashelpedsafeguardmanyhistoriccitiesandtownsfromimprudentdevelopmentandmadethemimportantheritagesitesthroughconservationplanningandpractice，suchasPingyao，Zhouzhuang，Tongli，Luzhi，Nanxun，Wuzhen，andXitang.
